I knew I wanted to be an actress. Always. I know many actors say that & I am glad that I am not the only one who heard their calling at a young age. Thank god I am not alone in this. And no, my father didn't really want me to be an actress. He would have liked for me to be an engineer, and if I tried I could have become a decent engineer. But I was determined to become an actress. My pursuit got me involved in many different theatre workshops in Delhi. I also became active with ‘The Players’, the drama society in the college where I completed BA in English Literature. During my undergraduate years I also started working with a theatre company, ‘Act One’. So, my days would begin at 8am and end at 10pm. I was a busy undergraduate student. And I loved it. After this I got a scholarship to study in Singapore. I left India to begin my world travels. Little did I know at the time that I would in fact LOVE traveling and meeting people from all over the world. I acted & directed plays in Singapore as I worked on my MA in Theatre Studies. It was a dissertation based degree and it challenged me in ways I had never been challenged before. My stay in Singapore was coming to an end, & I realized I wanted training as an actor. After applying to 5 acting schools in the US & 2 schools in the UK, I finally accepted the offer from the University of Texas at Austin. I earned an MFA in Acting at the Department of Theatre & Dance. I had a great time studying Acting for Camera & Meisner Technique with Lucien Douglas, Shakespeare with Franchelle Dorn, Alexander Technique with Jim Hancock, Pilates with Andrea Beckham & Voice work with Barney Hammond. I decided to move to New York City after graduation & have been working as an actor since. |
